Poll says heavy-spending Wynne budget not helping Ontario Liberals.

The debt-binge budget introduced by Kathleen Wynne didn’t help the Ontario Liberals in the polls according to a new survey by Mainstreet Research.

The poll somewhat contradicts another poll that showed the race narrowing, though the Ford PCs still had a strong lead there.

Here are the key results from the latest Mainstreet Research poll:

PCs 50.3%, Liberals 23.9%, NDP 18.3%, Greens 5.2%

Quito Maggi, the head of Mainstreet Research, says “Our poll shows that the budget has so far not moved the needle in favour of the Liberals. While it may give them a boost during the election when more voters are paying attention, there is no evidence that shows the budget has given the Wynne Liberals the shot in the arm that they badly need at this time.”

In reacting to the budget, 53.1% of respondents said the budget made them less likely to vote Liberal, while just 20.4% said it would make them more likely.

Party leader approval ratings

Voters are polarized on their opinions of Ford, with 37.3% saying they have a favourable view of him, while 43.6% say they have a unfavourable view.
