Sheikh Younus Kathrada says he was taken out of context, but won’t retract or apologize.
Sheikh Younus Kathrada, an Islamic Cleric who operates in B.C., is facing widespread condemnation for his claim that Muslims wishing someone ‘Merry Christmas’ was somehow a worse sin than taking a life.
Here’s part of what he said, as noted in reports based on a YouTube video that was posted by Muslim Youth of Victoria:
“If a person were to commit every major sin, murder, committing adultery, dealing with interest, all of these sins, if a person were to do all of those major sins, they are nothing compared to the sin of congratulating and greeting the non-Muslims on their false festivals. It is not possible that a true believer will allow himself or herself to congratulate people, we have no shame.”
Kathrada says his remarks were taken out of context, but he is still standing behind what he said:
