Well that didn’t take long. Less than a week after the Senate passed Bills C-69 and C-48, a group called “Wexit Saskatchewan” is running a “Can Confederation Be Fixed?” tour around the province, in conjunction with similar groups in Alberta and Manitoba. They had their first meeting in Saskatoon June 12, and will be in Regina June 26 for a second event. Allan Kerpan, former MLA for Carrot River Valley and Reform Party MP for Blackstrap, has been speaking at the meetings, outlining the issues with confederation and possible solutions. While not yet directly pushing for separation, Kerpan says he’d gladly vote for Western independence if Justin Trudeau is re-elected in October. Kerpan joins John now to talk about the tour, and the growing issues with Canada’s national unity.
