Rebel reporters Shelia Gunn-Reid and Keean Bexte were physically and verbally assaulted by protesters at the United Conservative’s Party convention on Saturday.

Police said 600 people with signs and a few AUPE flags gathered at the Westin Calgary Airport to protest job cuts planned by the Jason Kenney government that would see more than 6,400 people lose their jobs.

Gunn-Reid and Bexte said they approached the group after NDP Edmonton-Glenora MLA Sarah Hoffman had given a speech.

“We were handing out copies of (Stop Notley booklet) – trying to teach them about freedom and six credit downgrades,” said Gunn-Reid.
