Efeso Collins, a New Zealand Greens MP, died following a race in Auckland. Mr, Collins, a south Auckland man of Samoan and Tokelauan heritage, was new to parliament. The 49-year-old collapsed on Wednesday morning after running in the ChildFund Water Run, a fundraiser for Pacific communities. He received medical treatment on the scene with screens erected to shield him from public view, but he could not be revived. His cause of death is unknown at this time.
In 2021, Mr. Collins exhorted people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at a ‘Vaxathon’ event that aimed to increase the number of those submitting to the injection by 100,000 people.
