Alex Jones was the defendant in several defamation lawsuits brought by some of the parents of children who were reportedly killed in the Sandy Hook shooting event in 2012. Alex Jones failed to comply with discovery that resulted in summary judgements in the cases and led critics to question his non-compliance. Astronomical awards for damages in the cases totaled $1.5 billion, setting a precedent. He says the ‘lawfare’ lawsuits were used as show trials to frighten people to censor their speech.
It was reported that Jones offered to settle the cases for $55 million over 10 years, but the plaintiffs refused the offer. A judge ordered that Jones’ website, InfoWars, and social media sites, be auctioned off to pay the plaintiffs. The auction is set for November 13, 2024. -JW Williams
