House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) is claiming that his opening remarks during Thursday’s House Intelligence hearing with acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire were meant to be “part in parody,” as he’s being called out for them.

The hearing is surrounding a whistleblower report on President Donald Trump’s previous call with the Ukrainian president.

The White House released the transcript of the phone call between the two leaders after increased impeachment pressure by House Democrats and the House speaker’s launch of a formal impeachment inquiry. The whistleblower’s complaint was also released to the public on Thursday ahead of the hearing.
