Canada’s National Capital Commission (NCC), the federal agency that manages national heritage properties including the Prime Minister’s homes, was directed to construct a sprawling second mansion at Harrington Lake by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in late 2019 — shortly after the federal election in October and just days following turbulence in the marriage of Justin Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire, a source inside the PMO tells The Chronicle.

The $8.6 million in federal spending was not publicly disclosed until April of this year, which included $3 million to renovate the main house, $2.5 million to reconstruct and relocate what has been described as a caretaker’s house on the grounds, and $3.6 million to construct a second mansion that is intended for the Trudeaus’ use.

Just days after Gregoire threatened to divorce Trudeau last October, when she first began refusing to sleep under the same roof with him, the PMO ordered the NCC to proceed with millions of dollars in unplanned projects at the Prime Ministerial retreat.

“Spending millions of dollars to accommodate the evolving nature of the Prime Minister’s marriage is not fair to the Canadian taxpayer,” the disgruntled political staffer explains.

Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller said recently in the book, Promise and Peril (2019), that “Trudeau goes to Harrington Lake to get away and chill and not be judged when he’s chilling.“

  1. If this is fact I find it absolutely incredible that Canadian Media are ignoring this story .
    Should Tax Payers not at least be aware of what is going on with the construction of Harrington Lake and the properties mentioned including 24 Sussex the Governor General Residence .

    Before we know it PM Justin the Governor General and a handful; of pothers will rival Queen Elizabeth, her
    family who never do more than cut a Ribbon or Two and Saddam when it comes to residences spread out over the land .

    What about the cost of day to day running of the properties, maintenance, and other costs covered by the
    poor downtrodden Tax Payer ?

    Then throw the so called Governor General into the mix it is like literally running an Insane Asylum funded by the tax payers with no one held accountable .

    If this report out of the Buffalo Newspaper is credible i find it disgusting that Canadian Media are once again simply Whistling by the Graveyard .

    Am I surprised ? Absolutely not !!!

  2. You would think that a news org (NOT CBC) might send a crew to the construction sites.
    The real take away on this might be Sophie G is showing far more common sense than Canadian voters

  4. If they truly needed this residence. Then, they should have to pay for it, ALL OF IT, out of their own pockets. Taxpayers should not be paying for any of it.
    If there are marital problems then take care of their issues on their own time and and their own dime.

  5. This makes me sick. My mother worked herself to the bone her entire life, living in a small crappy apartment scraping together every penny she could to build herself a humble nest egg for retirement and the thought of having to fork over a large portion of that nest egg to the gov’t so they can spend it on their lavish lifestyle makes me want to avoid filing income tax altogether. They don’t deserve a penny of our hard-earned money! This is corruption and greed that has grossly overstepped its boundaries and is grounds for criminal prosecution. Income tax = gov’t stealing money from its citizens = immoral and illegal.
