Rand Paul (R-KY) recently pointed to Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act on Feb. 14, 2022 against the Freedom Convoy truckers for anyone who has any “doubt that emergency powers can be abused.” Paul was arguing against expanding any emergency powers for the federal government through the Department of Homeland Security because these “could be turned inward against political dissent.”
