As Southern California burns, questions about leadership, preparedness, and accountability rise from the ashes. With lives lost, homes destroyed, and resources stretched thin, the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles and its surrounding areas have exposed a staggering level of ineptitude and negligence from those in charge. Governor Gavin Newsom and the Mayor of Los Angeles must answer for a litany of failures that have turned a natural disaster into a preventable catastrophe.

A Region Ablaze

The recent wildfires have decimated Southern California, leaving at least 16 people dead, destroying over 12,000 structures, and displacing more than 150,000 residents. This tragedy is exacerbated by prolonged drought conditions and the infamous Santa Ana winds, which created a perfect storm for destruction. Firefighters have been working around the clock, yet their efforts have been stymied by an unforgivable lack of resources—most notably, water.
