According to Alberta crime reporter Byron Christopher, one of Canada’s most infamous pedophiles, Karl Toft, died today in an Edmonton hospice. The former correctional officer was 81.
Toft was admitted to hospital earlier this year with lung cancer.
The guard from a reform school in Kingsclear [near Fredericton] New Brunswick sexually assaulted hundreds of young boys, starting in the 1960s. Toft was convicted of numerous counts of sexual assault and sent to prison for more than 10 years.
The Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre confirms that Toft died Saturday morning at 06:22.
